Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Join Atlas as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (GEO Geotechnical Engineer
3) and become part of a nationwide leader in civil engineering, materials testing, and geotechnical consulting. Licensed Professional Engineers in Kentucky or Indiana are preferred.
This role offers flexibility and can be based out of any of our office locations, including Louisville, KY;
Indianapolis, IN; or Cincinnati, OH.
- Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance across diverse public and private sector projects.
- Perform geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
- Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical data interpretation to ensure high-quality, timely, and within-budget delivery.
- Perform design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses.
- Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements.
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring comprehensive geotechnical concerns are addressed.
- Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development.
- Play an active role in professional associations.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree in geotechnical engineering preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with emphasis on design, field investigation, and construction supervision.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky or Indiana.
- Local experience and familiarity with local engineering practice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work.
- Fundamental knowledge of geotechnical principles, soil and rock mechanics, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
- Experience in construction oversight for foundation and pavement construction and earthwork observation.

W, Geo Studio. - Familiarity with AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium-scale geotechnical projects and manage field geologists and engineers.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
- Ability to pass background check for clearance to work on private and government facilities.
