Role Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be responsible for building, scaling, and optimizing Wicked Smart Pad’s operational backbone across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and customer delivery. This role is ideal for a technically grounded operator who can translate engineering realities into reliable, repeatable, and compliant operations.

The COO will partner closely with the CEO on strategy and execution, ensuring that product development, quality systems, and operational scale move in lockstep with commercial growth.

This position is based onsite in Louisville, Kentucky, and requires daily in-person collaboration with our team.

Key Responsibilities Engineering & Product Operations
  • Serve as the operational counterpart to R&D, ensuring engineering designs are manufacturable, durable, and scalable.
  • Develop and own a roadmap of hardware, firmware, and systems engineering execution from prototype through production.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Reliability (DFR), and lifecycle cost optimization.
  • Ensure tight feedback loops between field performance data and product improvements.
Manufacturing & Supply Chain
  • Own end-to-end manufacturing strategy, including soft-goods production, electronics assembly, testing, and refurbishment.
  • Build and manage domestic and international supplier relationships.
  • Establish production forecasts, capacity planning, and inventory controls aligned to HaaS economics.
  • Optimize unit economics (COGS, refurb cycles, wash life, failure rates).
Quality & Regulatory Operations
  • Own and maintain the Quality Management System (eQMS) in alignment with FDA, ISO 13485-adjacent expectations, and risk-based frameworks.
  • Ensure complaint handling, CAPA, nonconformance, and post‑market surveillance (PMS) processes are operationally embedded.
  • Partner with regulatory and clinical stakeholders to support pilots, trials, and commercial deployments.
  • Balance compliance rigor with startup execution speed.
Customer Delivery & Support Infrastructure
  • Build scalable processes for device deployment, replacement, refurbishment, and ensure operational readiness for multi‑facility and multi‑state rollouts.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to ensure service reliability and SLA performance.
  • Translate customer feedback into operational and product improvements.
Company‑Level Operations
  • Establish KPIs and dashboards across operations, quality, and supply chain.
  • Hire and manage operations, engineering, QA, and manufacturing team members.
  • Support fundraising, diligence, and board reporting with operational data.
  • Act as a cross‑functional integrator between supply chain, production, engineering, clinical, and finance.
Preferred Background & Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in operations, engineering, or manufacturing leadership.
  • Strong technical foundation in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or systems) and experience scaling a physical product from early production to volume manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in regulated or quality‑sensitive environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a hands‑on execution mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with medical devices, IoT hardware, or regulated consumer health products.
  • Prior exposure to soft goods + electronics systems (wearables, sensors, textiles, or embedded devices).
  • Experience supporting FDA‑registered products or operating under a formal QMS.
  • Background in hardware subscription, HaaS, or lifecycle‑managed products.
  • Startup or growth‑stage company experience.
Leadership Profile
  • Builder mentality with comfort operating in ambiguity.
  • Detail‑oriented, systems thinker who understands how small engineering decisions scale operationally.
  • Comfortable rolling up sleeves while also designing scalable processes.
  • Strong communicator across technical, clinical, and commercial teams.
  • Mission‑driven and aligned with improving care quality and resident dignity in senior living.
