We are currently looking for a full-time Access and Virtual Services Librarian. The Access and Virtual Services Librarian (AVSL) position is a full-time professional academic librarian faculty position encompassing the responsibilities for all professional library reference and customer service duties as outlined below. Reporting to the Senior Director of University Libraries, the AVSL will have primary responsibility in three major areas.
First, the AVSL will coordinate delivery of library access services, such as assisting patrons with circulation of materials, technology support, interlibrary loan, and intra-library delivery between Sullivan sites. Second, the AVSL will support virtual access and reference services, such as assisting patrons with accessing electronic formats, responding to inquiries, and other services. Finally, the AVSL will assist in managing the library collection, including assisting with selection, purchasing, and shelving physical library materials.
This position is not tenure track and there is no expectation of teaching as instructor of record.
- Oversees daily operations of service desk including circulation, census tracking, and printer maintenance
- Manages patron records, overdue reminders, and billing communications with patrons and the bursar
- Offers front-line information services and technology support for patrons
- Manages interlibrary and intra-library loan operations
- Responds to online reference and circulation queries
- Manages physical collection, including shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, and signage
- Collaborates with other library staff to maintain virtual services and technologies
- Manages library FAQs and prepared Lib Answers responses
- Collaborates with library staff to maintain online guides
- Assists in collection development (selection, evaluation, deaccessioning)
- Conducts copy cataloging and processes new materials
- Promotes library services and resources to Sullivan users
- Stays current with best practices, emerging trends, and technologies in areas of responsibility
- Participates in outreach and engagement with faculty and student services units
- Assists in library instruction, in-person and online
- When librarian-on-duty, performs a supervisory role for part-time and library staff.
- Supports library personnel in applying library access services systems, policies, procedures, and concepts
- Serves on committees and task groups within the library and at the university
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Library Science or Information Science Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited university
- At least one year of professional experience in a position with similar functions. Experience should demonstrate an applied understanding of the theories, concepts, principles, and techniques of academic library access and virtual services
- Demonstrated experience with Springshare products, Microsoft 365 (Office suite, Teams, One Drive, and Outlook) and library management systems (FOLIO preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellent customer service
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
