responsibilities / scopescope of responsibilities: plans, organizes and delivers the program of instruction based on approved curriculum; monitors, evaluates, and communicates student progress; maintains records and makes reports; enforces board policies, regulations, and rules; supervises students, and secures and maintains school property and materials. Along with jcps hs teacher responsibilities, the ypas acting teacher plans, organizes, and delivers a program of instruction based on approved curriculum for theatre arts, including performance technique, theatre history, and textual analysis.
Will work with theatre, musical theatre, vocal music, dance, and other performing groups in areas of acting technique, character development, and speech-related vocal training (projection, pronunciation, and all aspects of voice for the performing arts). Will maintain reports, supervise students, and serve as artistic director on specified school plays and productions. Works cooperatively with other artists/teachers involved in the ypas program.
responsibilities & evaluation criteria
- will teach acting styles in alignment with stanislavski (hagen /meisner /adler), alexander, chekhov, commedia dell’arte, grotowski, spolin, suzuki, theatre of the oppressed, viewpoints, physical theatre, or other equivalent methodology.
- will teach voice for acting with advanced technique in dialects, diction, and projection.
- will direct in-class and after-school theatrical productions; communicate theatrical vision and execute through staging, acting coaching, and collaborating with design faculty.
- will employ and teach a diversity of performance styles, including classical, contemporary, and musical theatre.
- continues professional growth and development of skills appropriate to teaching assignments.
- able to supervise and participate in frequent evening activities related to the school program.
- completes all training and other compliance requirements as assigned and by the designated deadline.
- performs health services, if needed, for which training will be provided.
- performs all duties and responsibilities of a teacher in accordance with jefferson county board of education policies
- guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes objectives for all lessons, unit projects, and performances to communicate these objectives to students.
- bachelor’s degree and kentucky teacher certification
- proficiency in advanced acting pedagogy; proficiency in theatre history; professional and/or academic directing experience
- three (3) years of successful instruction in acting, theatre history, vocal technique, or equivalent professional experience.
- ability to maintain and provide leadership for a large high school ensemble in after-school rehearsals and performances.
- personal flexibility and cooperative spirit in working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body
- possess mature personal qualities and judgement
- experience in arts management
- experience in a diverse workplace
- kentucky certification appropriate to the grade level and curricular assignment (acting and theater history)
- experience and preparation required by the board
- effective communication skills
