Position: Thoracic Surgeon Career Opportunity

Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, is seeking an adult general (noncardiac) thoracic surgeon. The ideal candidate will join Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, an established practice that provides comprehensive cardiovascular and thoracic surgical services for Norton Healthcare’s adult-service hospitals and completes an average of 1,100 surgical procedures annually. Norton Heart & Vascular Institute maintains 49% of the general thoracic surgery market share, more than any other health care provider in our service area.

Led by George J. Mikos, M.D., with more than 20 years’ experience as a thoracic surgeon, this team is known for its skill, experience, easy access for patients and ability to treat some of the most advanced conditions. Surgeons have access to a comprehensive suite of cutting-edge technology in minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment options, including the use of robotic-assisted thoracic surgery.

Norton Heart & Vascular Institute works closely with Norton Cancer Institute to provide comprehensive lung care to patients seen at Norton Cancer Institute Comprehensive Lung Center. This multidisciplinary program has been designated as a GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer Center of Excellence, reserved for programs designed to accelerate lung cancer detection and treatment by using advanced technology.

About the Position
  • Join an adult-service practice consisting of four cardiac surgeons, two general thoracic surgeons, nine advanced practice providers and several support staff members
  • Competitive compensation model including bonus options based on quality or key performance indicators
  • Participate in a center of excellence-designated multidisciplinary lung clinic
  • Preferred candidates will be in the process of completing training or have at least one to two years of experience
  • Candidate must possess excellent technical skills in minimally invasive surgery as well as surgical management of complex lung, esophageal and chest wall malignancies

Requirements for the position

  • Kentucky or Indiana medical license or license eligible
