Temporary Guest Experience Associate
Position to join the Guest Experience Team of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky. The role requires providing the highest level of service to museum guests in person, on the phone, and through technology, including selling admissions, memberships, merchandise, and accepting donations.
Base PayHourly: $15.00/hr
FLSA StatusTemporary, Part‑Time, Non‑Exempt (through January 15, 2024)
Responsibilities- Represent the museum in a guest‑forward capacity and embody its customer service programs.
- Greet guests, answer questions about programs, services, and merchandise, and provide an overview of museum policies.
- Collect visitor information and perform visitor surveys as needed.
- Recommend local landmarks, events, dining, accommodations, and directions based on guest preferences.
- Sell admission, memberships, and merchandise and accept donations using Altru by Blackbaud software.
- Maintain superior knowledge of museum programs, services, and merchandise.
- Use cross‑selling and upselling sales techniques to increase sales.
- Maintain merchandise stock levels and ensure displays are presentable.
- Prepare merchandise for sale, including pricing and tagging.
- Follow cash‑handling procedures and process payments through Altru.
- Answer telephone calls courteously and efficiently, routing to appropriate staff when needed.
- Provide guidance to volunteers and answer basic questions about the volunteer program.
- Assist guests at coat check as needed.
- Perform opening and closing duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–2 years of customer service, sales, or transferable experience.
- Enthusiastic, friendly, energetic with a genuine desire to provide outstanding service.
- Experience with computerized ticketing system preferred.
- Experience with computerized cash registers preferred.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices.
- Basic math skills.
- Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holiday availability.
- Acts as a model for our mission and culture.
- Delivers world‑class customer service.
- Works effectively with museum stakeholders including guests, members, staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
- Becomes proficient with museum-specific software.
- Can multi-task while maintaining attentiveness to customers and flexibility to business needs.
- Ability to use telephone and computer throughout the workday.
- Remain stationary during shift.
- Access merchandise, supplies intermittently during the workday.
- Communicate using English.
- Seeing, hearing, or using prosthetics as needed.
- Move equipment, supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
