Job Description
Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for
federal and commercial construction projects. An employee in this role will have strong
analytical skills, a deep understanding of construction processes, and a desire to be part of a
collaborative, mission-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to develop comprehensive
estimates
Perform quantity takeoffs and calculate material, labor, and equipment costs
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
Identify project risks, cost contingencies, and market trends
Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and estimate documentation for internal and client
review
Ensure federal proposals meet FAR and other compliance standards
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure alignment
on budget and schedule
Maintain a database of historical cost data and unit pricing
Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and value engineering sessions when needed
Present estimates and cost data to leadership or project teams
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or
equivalent experience)
3–5 years of experience in construction estimating (federal and commercial preferred)
Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Plan Swift, Procore) and Microsoft
Excel
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and drawings (architectural,
structural, MEP)
Familiarity with FAR and federal procurement is a plus
Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with strong attention to detail
Effective communicator with strong organizational and time management abilities
Estimating certifications (AACE, CPE) are a plus but not required
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods while using a computer
Occasional travel to project sites and pre-bid meetings
Ability to walk, stand, and navigate active construction sites when required
May be exposed to varying outdoor weather and construction site conditions during visits
