OverviewThe Quality Engineer plays an active role in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) and standardization of inspection methods, processes and procedures.
Responsibilities- Communicate, report, and coordinate with the Quality Manager to establish and determine required actions, set priorities, develop projects, and pursue standardization opportunities.
- Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
- Apply statistical process control (SPC) methods in real time to analyze data and evaluate the current process and process changes.
- Oversee programming for various machines and applications in Quality, such as the CMM, Keyence, and QC Calc/QC Gage.
- Define and interpret geometric dimensioning requirements from drawings.
- Complete Gage R&R and capability studies as directed by the Quality Manager.
- Review data during quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
- Act as quality representative for customer source delegated inspection processes (SDR, DSQR).
- Implement quality training programs to key personnel in conjunction with the manager.
- Play an active role in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System within the organization.
- Review customer complaints, analyze returns, and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Assist in conducting internal and external plant audits.
- Analyze data of production runs to ensure parts are produced to meet customer requirements.
- Perform PPAP studies as necessary.
- Maintain and schedule calibration of measuring and test equipment and inspection tools.
- Prepare and present technical and program information to the management team.
- Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Instill awareness and knowledge of accuracy and safety among employees to minimize accidents and provide a safe work environment.
- Identify and investigate quality problems by working with Manufacturing Engineering and other departments to implement and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Train operators on new systems, quality updates and other areas as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a minimum of 3 years of previous quality supervision experience in an ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environment. Experience with Qualtrax, QC Gage/QC Calc, Keyence Programming, and/or JD Edwards is preferred. Experience with the following standards is preferred:
- ISO 9001
- AS 9100
- ISO 14001
- OHSAS 18001
- FAA TSO C150
- Ability to read and evaluate drawings, specifications and procedures to identify requirements, including knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience using precision inspection instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, optical comparator, CMM) and knowledge of their usage, resolution, accuracy and efficiency.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills to communicate standards and documents effectively.
- High level of attention to detail and advanced problem solving skills (root cause analysis).
- Good to intermediate computer skills with Qualtrax, JDE, Microsoft Office, and experience writing programs for SPC software (e.g., QC Calc/QC Gage) and automated inspection equipment (Seebrez, Keyence, CMM).
- Knowledge of materials and material requirements related to customer orders (ASTM, AMS, Customer Specifications).
- Ability to program and operate Seebrez, Keyence, QC Calc, and Coordinate Measuring Machine.
- Ability to train other personnel.
This position is located in a manufacturing facility requiring prolonged sitting, standing, walking, squatting, twisting, and bending. About 90% of time on the production floor with heavy machinery and loud sounds. Lifting up to 50 lbs. Manual dexterity for typing.
