This part-time position, within the Department of Cultural Services and under the supervision of the Museum Services Supervisor, assists with various museum operations to fulfill the Museum's mission of collecting, sharing, and preserving the community history of Louisville, Colorado. This is a great opportunity to work in a small, City-owned Museum that enjoys demonstrated community support and public interest. The Museum Associate facilitates relationships with the community and encourages visitors to “Be a Part of the Story.”

The Museum currently has three Museum Associate positions who share responsibilities for daily operations and ensure all tasks are accomplished. The Museum team works together to plan and execute events, create content for museum publications and exhibits, and connect residents and visitors with Louisville history. This position will focus on Outreach and Communications and will assume other duties as needed.

Schedule: Typical schedule is 25 hours/week, 5 days per week which includes Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 am - 3 pm, and Wednesday 1-5 pm. Additional morning or evening hours up to 29 hours may be scheduled for staff meetings or public events. Hours may be subject to change based on needs of the Museum.

General Duties
  • Work with Museum staff and volunteers to proactively greet Museum visitors in a professional and inviting manner and assist them with their needs.
  • Engage visitors in conversation about the Museum, Louisville history, and Louisville activities and give tours of the Museum buildings to diverse audiences that include students, tourists, families, seniors, and researchers.
  • Lead or assist with Museum programming and events and outreach activities to the Louisville community, including tabling at community events and giving presentations to the public, schools, and local organizations.
  • Develop written and visual materials for Museum programs and services.
  • Open and close Museum facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Outreach, Education, and Communications Duties
  • Train, schedule, and manage volunteers for programs, special events, museum tours, and walking tours.
  • Train and work with volunteers in cataloging, inventory, digitization projects, and other museum administrative tasks.
  • Schedule and lead tours for school visits and special tours with other community groups including seniors and adults with special needs.
  • Lead or assist in the development and installation of permanent and temporary Museum exhibits, including digital exhibits using ArcGIS and Bloomberg Connects.
  • Maintain membership records and mailing lists using Past Perfect software.
  • Design and develop marketing materials for Museum programs and services using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other graphics and photo editing programs.
  • Write and collaborate on newsletter articles, reports, interpretive panels and labels, as well as publicity and marketing materials.
  • Work with Museum Supervisor and City Communications staff to promote current postings and information about Museum activities, programs, and connections to local history on social media and the Museum website, and compile monthly data analytics and statistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in museum studies, history or public history, library science, or archives preferred, and a minimum of one year of experience working in a museum setting or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience with Web editors and web content creation preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Publisher or other graphics and photo editing platforms preferred.
  • Experience with informal education for the public, such as by giving tours or leading programs for a variety of age groups is preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating and working with volunteers.
  • Interest in talking with people about history and in gathering and sharing the everyday stories of citizens.
