The AES Clean Energy Legal team focuses on project development and M&A, providing counsel to commercial development and M&A teams.
AES is seeking to hire a Legal Counsel to join AES Clean Energy. This position requires a high level of ownership with the ability to communicate clearly, identify and mitigate risks, work independently, and manage outside counsel. The role is for a qualified attorney to work with a dynamic in-house legal team at the forefront of the energy landscape. The Development and M&A group consists of six attorneys and one paralegal who focus on project development and provide comprehensive counsel to our commercial development and M&A teams.
We are hiring for a candidate located near one of our offices:
Salt Lake City, UT;
Louisville, CO;
Richmond, VA;
Arlington, VA;
New York, NY;
San Francisco, CA; and Houston, TX.
- Provide advice and counsel to development, permitting, interconnection, environmental, stakeholder relations, and project execution teams for renewable energy and battery storage projects from inception to construction-ready status.
- Assist with public policy and regulatory issues and provide counsel in the identification of strategic markets.
- Manage the negotiation and drafting of service agreements, development agreements, procurement agreements, permits and applications, etc.
- Work closely with real estate counsel and teams on cross-functional agreements.
- Achieve and maintain industry knowledge and expertise for solar, wind and battery storage projects.
- Renewable energy experience; wind energy, battery storage or general infrastructure project development experience a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of duties and often challenging tasks.
- Smart, decisive, organized, methodical, biased toward action.
- Three to six years of relevant legal experience, preferably at a major law firm or in-house.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $117,000 and $147,050 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits).

If hired, the employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or department performance, and market factors.
