Overview
As part of the City of Louisville’s Cultural Services, the Louisville Public Library is seeking a Library Clerk who is enthusiastic, attentive, self-motivated and will genuinely enjoy working with the diverse population we serve. As a member of Circulation Services, Library Clerks assist patrons with accessing library materials, resources and services, and are the welcoming presence that greets everyone who comes to the library.
This position is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, with a minimum of one evening shift each week, and one full weekend shift every 4 weeks.
We are looking for someone who can work Monday afternoons/evenings 12:45-8:15pm (could also work 3:15-8:15pm), Tuesday mornings to afternoons (9am-3pm or similar six hours), and Fridays all day 9:30am-5pm or Friday afternoons until 5:15pm (could be 12:15pm-5:15pm). There’s also one full weekend, Sat. 9:30am-5pm and Sun. 11:15am-5:15pm every four weeks. We can offer 20hrs per week as a set schedule, with the potential of picking up to an additional 9 hours when there are absences/open shifts.

Responsibilities- Assists patrons with borrowing and returning library materials
- Assists patrons with use of self-service equipment and services, including self-pickup holds in Louisville and Superior locations
- Assists patrons with information and access questions
- Assists patrons with resolving fees, lost/damaged materials and other access concerns
- Processes patron requests for materials in our collections and coming from other libraries; searches for missing and claim returned materials
- Processes returned and newly acquired materials, including sorting and shelving materials; clearing and re-shelving items used in the library; straightening and replacing materials on shelves and displays
- Assists with organization of displays, informational notices and handouts.
- Assists with opening, closing and general library safety procedures
- Assists in training new library staff and volunteers.
- Performs other duties as required to support library and Cultural Services operations and programming.
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent, plus at least one year of library work experience in a customer service position
- Or diploma or equivalent, plus at least one year of library work experience and two years of work experience in any customer service position
- Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience
- Knowledge of general library services.
- Accuracy and attention to detail. Skill in operating personal computers, copiers, printers, cash register, and calculator.
- Ability to effectively use the library's databases for managing patron accounts and locating items in the library's collection.
- Must possess organizational skills, excellent verbal communication skills, and customer service skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees and the public.
- Ability to sustain and contribute to the welcoming environment of a public library
Valid Colorado driver’s license.
Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands, fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Position includes lifting, bending, reaching, and stooping to move books, other library materials, courier/mail totes and packages. The position requires the ability to push or pull carts up to 100lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
