Overview

The Aquatics Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the City of Sioux City  aquatic facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all patrons. Responsibilities include supervising lifeguards and instructors, coordinating staff schedules, and providing ongoing training and performance evaluations. This position ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations, required certifications, and established emergency procedures. The coordinator also plans, organizes, and manages aquatic programs such as swim lessons, fitness classes, and special events.

Strong leadership, effective communication, and thorough knowledge of aquatic safety standards are essential for success in this role.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must hold a valid lifeguard certification
Responsibilities
  • Supervises and evaluates the work of subordinate staff; effectively recommends personnel actions related to selection, performance, leaves of absence, grievances, work schedules and assignments, disciplinary procedures and administers personnel, safety, and related policies and procedures.
  • Solicits the services of, and trains volunteers, as necessary, to satisfactorily coordinate events held through the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Manages the daily operations of recreational facilities; schedules maintenance and use of facilities.
  • Responds to inquiries, complaints and requests from the general public.
  • Assists with social media management for the department.
  • Coordinates daily operations/private rentals at certain facilities, such as Cone Park, Expo Center, Long Lines Family Recreation Center, swimming pools, or other City recreation facilities, as assigned.
  • Creates, implements, and oversees recreational programming.
  • Administers first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
  • Participates in short-term and long-term strategic planning efforts for recreation programming, for the department at assigned facilities.
  • Sets up tables, chairs, audio-visual, concession, soccer goals, basketball hoops, and other equipment as needed for scheduled events.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • Occasionally works outside regular office hours.
  • Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.
