Job Title: Shop Helper
Department: Thirteenth Floor Creative Shops - New Orleans
Employment Type: Temporary / Project-Based (Full-Time and Part-Time)
Position Overview
The Shop Helper is a hands-on support role that assists with a wide range of production and fabrication tasks in our creative shop. This is temporary, project-based work that supports build and installation periods for our events and attractions, with schedules that may vary based on production needs. You will work alongside skilled artists, carpenters, and technicians to help build immersive environments for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Carpentry Support: Assist with basic carpentry tasks, including measuring, cutting, assembling, and fastening materials; general familiarity with hand and power tools is preferred.
- Painting & Scenic Support: Help with scenic and general painting projects, including surface prep, priming, and touch-ups as directed by lead staff.
- Packing, Crating & Moving: Prepare, pack, label, and move materials, props, and sets; safely load/unload trucks and transport items within the facility.
- Shop Upkeep: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop by emptying trash, sweeping, breaking down cardboard, and returning tools and materials to their proper locations.
- Shop Organization: Assist with organizing tools, hardware, lumber, paints, and other materials; help with basic inventory tasks as needed.
- Cross-Department Support: Float between projects and departments (carpentry, paint, props, tech) based on daily priorities and direction from shop leadership.
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow direction from leads and supervisors.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced shop environment.
- General experience with basic hand and power tools preferred (training available for the right candidate).
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to [50 lbs] repeatedly and safely; comfortable standing, bending, and moving for extended periods.
- Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to changing work assignments, project timelines, and seasonal needs.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
