Summary of Responsibilities

Responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining all types of vehicles and heavy equipment to keep them in efficient operating condition.

Key Duties
  • Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects
  • Repair trucks and heavy equipment in a timely manner
  • Remove and repair engine, transmission, or differential
  • Rebuild buckets, dump bodies, broken parts, appropriate structural members, etc., using welding equipment
  • Rewire lights, tarps, and other electrical components
  • Adjust and repair brakes and fix hydraulic leaks and cylinders
  • Test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency
  • Weld broken parts and appropriate structural members
  • Remove, repair, and replace tires for motor vehicle fleet and heavy equipment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Equipment Manager
Must-Haves

The mechanic must have their own tools and be willing to travel to job sites for equipment servicing. They will use the Durr vehicle for this purpose and must possess a valid driver's license and have a clear motor vehicle record (MVR). The mechanic should be able to troubleshoot broken machinery and identify issues such as battery problems, wiring faults, or leaks in the field.

Skills in welding, changing tracks on machines, and diagnosing equipment problems are required.

Safety Compliance
  • Maintains a clean work area; picks up all tools and equipment and secures work area daily to eliminate potential hazards
  • Follows proper safety and incident reporting procedures, bringing problems to the attention of the Equipment Manager

Education & Experience

Three to five years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic. Welding experience preferred.

Physical Demands

Employee may frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds. The role requires talking, hearing, lifting heavy parts and tools, handling greasy and dirty equipment, standing or lying in uncomfortable positions. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Primarily indoors with loud noise levels.
