Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic

Reports To: Mechanic Shop Supervisor

Position SummaryThe Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of company-owned diesel equipment, with a primary focus on ready‑mix concrete mixer trucks. This position also supports maintenance and repair of other fleet vehicles and equipment as needed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on diesel‑powered mixer trucks, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air systems, and braking systems.
- Inspect, adjust, repair, and replace components such as cooling systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, belts, hoses, alternators, starters, and valves.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues and resolve them in a timely and efficient manner.
- Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and DOT‑related checks.
- Repair engine failures and mechanical or electrical malfunctions on trucks, trailers, and other company equipment.
- Fabricate, modify, or weld parts and equipment when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed.
- Prepare basic work estimates and communicate repair needs with supervisors.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
- Support repairs on additional company vehicles and equipment outside of mixer trucks as operational needs require.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures and promote a safe working environment.
- Uphold company policies, standards, and values while contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications Education & Experience- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic preferred
- Experience working on ready‑mix concrete trucks or heavy‑duty diesel equipment strongly preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systems
- Welding and fabrication skills preferred
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and standard shop equipment
- Valid driver's license required
- CDL is a plus, but not required
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Work is performed primarily in a heavy equipment maintenance shop and yard environment
- Exposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperatures
