Security Officer - Evening at The National WWII Museum
A Security Officer for the evening shift at The National WWII Museum oversees a safe environment for employees, visitors, and volunteers in collaboration with the Director of Security and shift supervisors. The role specializes in preventing unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, and other unsafe behaviors and requires prompt incident response, policy enforcement, and exceptional customer service.
Requirements- Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish a visible presence.
- Perform security checks of doors, windows, gates, and fences.
- Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems.
- Control access to buildings and restricted areas; verify identification of staff and visitors.
- Respond to emergencies and incidents including fire alarms, medical situations, or security threats.
- Report and document incidents accurately using daily activity reports and incident reports.
- Enforce organizational rules, regulations, and procedures consistently.
- Assist in emergency evacuation procedures and provide first response as needed.
- Conduct security inspections of buildings, vehicles, equipment, and visitor bags.
- Provide escort services for staff, contractors, or visitors when requested.
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement, emergency services, and internal teams as required; communicate via security equipment according to department protocols.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Complete all other reasonable tasks and duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Prior experience in a security, military, or law enforcement role preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with security equipment and surveillance systems.
- CPR / First Aid certification a plus.
- Strong observation and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Physically fit and capable of standing or patrolling for extended periods.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- A current and valid driver’s license is required.
