Overview
This position provides analytical support to the Plaquemine Operating Units.
Duties and Responsibilities- Demonstrate a strong safety mindset through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety policies.
- Comply with Laboratory Safety Policy and site HSPs.
- Participate in the PACE safety culture.
- Write permits and work orders in accordance with company environmental, health and safety and operational procedures.
- Report injuries, incidents and hazards to supervision as soon as reasonably possible.
- Conduct tasks and operational duties with appropriate PPE as assigned.
- Review JHA for appropriate PPE needed for routine and non-routine duties.
- Actively participate in unit safety training and monthly safety modules.
- Membership on the Emergency Response Team.
- Analyze raw material, in-process materials, environmental samples and finished products related to site operating units using Laboratory standard operating procedures and specifications.
- Review all results and report them to the proper operating unit.
- Input data into LIMS/SAP.
- Assist with preventive maintenance of instrumentation.
- Assist with troubleshooting of instrumentation.
- Assist with laboratory housekeeping and 5S to maintain a clean working environment.
- Perform assigned duties needed to keep the lab functioning efficiently.
- Carry out other activities/tasks as needed/assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or science/technical field strongly preferred, with a minimum of 12 hours in chemistry coursework (applicable experience can be substituted for chemistry coursework).
- Minimum of two years previous laboratory experience required (clinical/research acceptable).
- Basic laboratory skills such as quantitative and qualitative testing, ability to interpret results.
- Experience with gas or liquid chromatography, ICP and/or discrete liquid analysis is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS, SAP and statistical software.
- Basic troubleshooting skills with the ability to escalate problems.
- Experience with regulatory certifications/accreditations such as ISO 9001, cGMPs, FCC, and ASTM.
- High degree of organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work a 12-hour rotating day shift schedule with holidays and weekends. Occasional overtime, nights and callouts may be required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently make minor decisions requiring limited judgment, general decisions in the absence of specific directions, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.
The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office; however, some work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. Travel may occasionally be required.
