LABORATORY QUALITY MANAGER – New Orleans, Louisiana

The company currently operates three fully equipped testing laboratories to provide sample preparation and analytical services for dry bulk fuel commodities.

POSITION:

The Lab Manager for the Louisiana facility is accountable for end-to-end laboratory operations including office, analytical, and sample preparation functions in full conformity with ISO/IEC 17025 – 9001 and Company’s Quality Procedures, as well as Personnel Policies and Benefits Manual. This role leads performance, safety, and compliance for the site, safeguards data integrity and impartiality, and serves as custodian of the Quality Management System.

The Lab Manager maintains strong client relationships to support business retention and growth. As a member of the management team, they will represent the site during internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of findings. This position will report to the Director of Laboratory Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Core Leadership and Governance:
  Own day-to-day laboratory operations, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation across all shifts
• ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System:
  Maintain conformity to ISO/IEC 17025 across all processes; ensure awareness, and adherence by all staff
• Technical Oversight and Method Control:
  Oversee method selection, method verification/validation, changes of test methods, decision rules, Statements of Conformity, measurement uncertainty models, and technical deviations
• Personnel, Training, and Competence:
  Define roles, authorizations, and competence criteria; maintain a current competence matrix, plan onboarding and method training, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a safety-first and quality-first culture
• Equipment, Facilities, and Metro logical Traceability:
  Ensure equipment selection meets method and uncertainty needs, calibrations are verified, reference materials/standards are suitable, and environmental conditions are within specified limits
• Sample Management and Chain of Custody:
  Ensure robust processes for receipt, identification, handling, storage, retention, and disposal of samples
• Quality Control and Validity of Results:
  Establish and review QC schemes; investigate and conduct CAPA for QC failures, trends, and biases, and confirm ongoing method performance and uncertainty fitness
• Data Integrity, LIMS, and Records:
  Ensure data integrity, control user access, audit trails, document control, and retrievable technical records are maintained
• Risk Management and Improvement:
  Maintain a living risk/opportunity register; implement mitigations and review effectiveness
• Purchasing and Supplier Management:
  Approve and monitor suppliers of calibrations, reference materials, consumables, and services
• Customers, Contract Review, and Communication:
  Support contract reviews and quotations with technical input, capacity planning, and method applicability; manage customer communications, complaints, and feedback; ensure timely responses and documented resolutions
• Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE):
  Ensure compliance with HSE policies and oversee safety training
• Financial and Operational Stewardship:
  Manage operating budgets, optimize throughput and cost-per-test without compromising quality; approve procurement within authority, and support capital planning
