Position: Forestry Crew Specialist 1/2 (Wildland Firefighter)
Location: Coushatta

Overview

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF) is seeking a Forestry Crew Specialist to support wildfire prevention and suppression, promote sound forest management, enforce timber laws, and assist community forestry programs in Red River Parish.

Responsibilities
  • Report forest fires, including location and acreage.
  • Assist the Forestry Crew Specialist Leader with forest management activities such as cruising, detecting, and controlling forest insects and diseases.
  • Participate in information and education programs related to all forestry fields as required.
  • Monitor and/or repair and maintain transport trucks, dozer tractors, and various fire suppression equipment and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Louisiana driver’s license and current Louisiana Class A or B CDL (preferred).
  • Moderate light lifting of 30–50+ pounds, ability to walk on irregular ground, and stand for long periods.
  • Experience with wildfire operations and forest management is a plus.
Physical & Environmental Factors
  • Work both indoors and outdoors under extreme conditions (heat, smoke, humidity, cold).
  • Travel to remote locations and carry equipment.
  • Wear appropriate safety protection and clothing.
Appointment & Benefits

Full‑time, probationary. Eligible for Hazardous Duty Services Retirement Plan, hazardous duty pay, and on‑call compensation. CDL training provided with a one‑year probationary period to obtain a higher class license.
