Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse (PPEC) - Location:
New Orleans, LA - Hours:
Flexible Hours | Full/Part Time | 20‑40 hours/week
- Assess and address physical, psycho‑social, and developmental needs of children and families using the nursing process.
- Develop and implement care plans based on nursing standards and treatment protocols.
- Evaluate and adjust care plans based on patient outcomes and changing conditions.
- Educate families on disease management and care techniques, adjusting teaching based on feedback.
- Communicate effectively with physicians regarding patient status and changes in condition.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of nursing interventions and outcomes.
- Advocate for patients and ensure confidentiality and dignity in care.
- Coordinate care between families, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Adhere to legal and ethical nursing practices and organizational policies.
- Ensure infection control measures and safety protocols are followed.
- Participate in professional development activities and staff meetings.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to nursing assistants based on patient needs.
- Maintain professional conduct and appearance per organizational standards.
- Attend to operational and patient care issues through established channels.
- Operate and maintain medical equipment safely and effectively.
- Manage supplies efficiently and report shortages promptly.
- Perform clinical assessments and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Provide infusion therapy and manage intravenous lines as required.
- Conduct technical nursing procedures according to standards and protocols.
- Conduct pre‑transport assessments of children, receive caregiver reports, and document details on transportation reports. Inform center nursing staff accordingly.
- Accompany and ensure the safety of children during transportation to and from PPEC Center.
- Manage emergency situations during transport, activate EMS as necessary, and notify the charge nurse for resolution.
- Inventory and maintain emergency medical equipment daily.
- Document and report maintenance and use of emergency equipment to Center Administrator or Charge Nurse, restocking supplies as required.
- Perform daily checks of children’s supply boxes, informing parents or nursing staff of any missing items.
- Maintain transport phone logs as instructed.
- Assist in developing and updating the Bus/Transport Schedule.
- Follow Safeguarding of Children during Transportation Policy rigorously.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Current State Licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Maintenance of CE credits as mandated in state of licensure.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in general pediatrics with at least six (6) months experience caring for medically and/or technology‑dependent children in an acute, chronic or community‑based care setting preferred; experience in PICU, NICU, or pediatric specialty preferred.
