Operate diesel-powered forklifts to move, stack, and stage lumber and materials in a lumberyard/manufacturing environment while performing routine inspections, preventative maintenance, housekeeping, and quality checks. Communicate with supervisors and maintenance, follow safety and lockout/zero-energy procedures, and be willing to work varied shifts including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Requires forklift training/certification, mechanical aptitude, basic math and computer skills, HS diploma/GED, and the ability to perform physical tasks in indoor/outdoor conditions.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for driving a diesel-powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials.
What you will do:
- Safely operate a lift to keep lumber moved to and from work areas at all times.
- Communicate with your Supervisor and maintenance personnel to keep advised of equipment, flow production, or quality issues.
- Fill out daily PM checklist and keep forklift clean.
- Maintain accurate rough shed inventory.
- Maintain clean workstations & demonstrate good housekeeping behaviors.
- Keep staging area clean and pile bottoms straight.
- Operate equipment to maintain full production pace, quality, safety, and uptime.
- Demonstrate team player skills in working with co-workers & Supervisors.
- Have good performance, safety and attendance records.
- Demonstrate ability to work safely with & properly care for tools and equipment.
- Willingness to work overtime, odd hours, weekends, holidays & other shifts as required.
Required skills and experience you will need:
- Must have some mechanical knowledge to know when something is wrong with their lift.
- Must be able to add, subtract and do general math.
- Must have completed or be able to successfully complete forklift operation training.
- Must demonstrate good communication skills.
- Must have ability to identify & communicate potential problems & work to solve them.
- Must be physically capable of performing job duties.
- Know general lockout procedures & demonstrate safe behaviors.
- Willing to perform other duties or positions as required or requested by supervisor.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a HS Diploma/GED
What you will do:
- Must be willing to perform entry level lumberyard duties, housekeeping duties, including use of a shovel, ground keeping, painting, janitorial, etc.
- Must be willing to stack various lengths of lumber
- May be assigned tasked indoors and outdoors, no matter the weather conditions
- Monitor lumber movement
- Move lumber through the process ensuring no lumber cross-ups
- Clear jammed lumber as necessary
- Assist others as necessary
- Perform quality checks
- Perform safety observations
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures
- Follow all Zero Energy State procedures
- Utilize downtime or slow time to enhance the appearance and productivity of the department
- Perform all job assignments in an effective and timely manner with minimal supervision
- Operate necessary equipment according to procedures
- Monitor assigned area and related area visually and via monitor screen.
- Remove/straighten out cross-ups using pike pole or picaroon
- Inspection of equipment
- Servicing and minor adjustments to the equipment (when necessary)
- Preventative maintenance
- Assist maintenance with servicing of equipment
- Cleaning of the equipment
- Documentation and reporting of results
- Daily greasing of necessary equipment and/or related equipment
What you need to be successful:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Excellent safety record
- Follow all safety criteria and contribute to the safety program
- Follow all electrical safety standards
- Willing to work any shift
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent attendance record
- Demonstrable mechanical aptitude
- Basic maintenance skills
- Capability to troubleshoot issues and diagnose problems within the department and/or related equipment.
- Able to maintain or assist with maintaining the assigned area and/or related equipment.
- Capability to perform preventative maintenance on your assigned machine
- Able to climb ladders and work in elevated workplaces
- Capable of working in tight close spaces
- Ability to make quality control checks and adjustments at the assigned area and/or other related equipment.
- Ability to keep the department clean and meet housekeeping standards.
- Willingness and ability to learn and use some basic computer-related operating skills
- Willing to train others within the department and/or related equipment
- Willing to cross-train on other equipment
