Position: AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC (JOURNEYMAN) (CLASS CODE 1933)
Location: New Orleans

performs skilled work at the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel powered automotive and related equipment. Work involves the performance of skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy duty trucks, motor graders, bulldozers, mowers, tractors, and other standard and specialized equipment; and related work as required

(entrance)
  • high school diploma or g.e.d. Equivalency diploma.*
  • a valid driver's license.
  • three (3) years of full-time experience as an automotive mechanic.
(promotional)
  • a valid driver's license.
  • either: permanent status with the city of new orleans as an auto mechanic iii or higher within the automotive series.
  • or: permanent status as an automotive mechanic, assistant and one (1) year of experience in that classification.

: domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after january 1, 2013 must be domiciled in orleans parish within 180 days of hire. Airport and public safety employees are excluded from this provision.
