Job Description Summary
Supervises work activities of housekeeping personnel to ensure the hotel is clean, orderly and attractive. Inspect work of all attendants ensuring each associates’ work meets Sonesta's standard.
Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Comfortable with working in a fast-paced and diverse environment.
- Inspect all guest checkout and stayover rooms for cleanliness, appropriate guest amenities and the correct condition of guest room equipment.
- Evaluate room attendants on job performance according to Sonesta corporate standards.
- Participate in recognition programs; reward, document and acknowledge good work from employees.
- Coach and retrain associates as needed, including management if escalation is required.
- Collect Lost/Found items and enter the information in the Lost/Found log maintained in the office.
- Collect room attendant's assignment sheets and confirm room status.
- Check Opera and Rex for information concerning room status and enter updated room status.
- Confirm work schedule with the associates for the following day.
- Understand and prioritize housekeeping needs (queue rooms, VIPs, general clean, projects, etc.).
- Assign Floor Housemen, Room Attendants, Public Area Attendants and Laundry Attendants their duties and inspect work for compliance with cleanliness standards.
- Advise Office Coordinator of rooms ready for occupancy.
- Inventory stock to ensure adequate supplies and issue supplies/equipment to employees.
- Investigate complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment; advise on corrective action when required.
- Examine guest rooms, halls and lobbies to determine need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment; make recommendations to management.
- Conduct orientation training of new Housekeeping employees to explain policies and procedures and demonstrate use/maintenance of equipment.
- Attend training seminars to perfect housekeeping techniques and supervisor skills.
- Record data concerning work assignments, personnel actions, time cards and prepare periodic reports.
- Attend staff meetings with other department heads to discuss policies and patrons’ complaints and to make recommendations to improve service.
- Work with Housekeeping Management to develop employees through regular room inspections, self-assessments and employee reviews.
- Other duties as assigned; employee may work in other areas of the hotel to assist operations.
- Build solid relationships with colleagues and treat them with respect and dignity.
- Deliver passionate and engaging service to guests and anticipate their needs to exceed expectations.
- Motivate and inspire the team; deliver the GUEST model:
Greet, Establish needs, Solve requests, Thank guests.
- Track record of delivering exceptional guest or client experience.
- Strong communication skills for training, safety, and guest/associate interactions.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Bi-lingual is preferred (Spanish).
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Proficiency with PC-based platforms and smart devices; good writing/reading/comprehension skills and professional vocabulary.
- Two years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
- Open availability: mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Creative, adaptive and energetic demeanor.
- High school diploma or GED; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
