Essential Functions
The Child Life Specialist is responsible for providing patient care services for infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents and their families. The role fosters emotional well‑being, promotes cognitive development and creates a family‑centered environment that reduces stress and encourages social interaction. The specialist supports developmental integrity through play experiences by creating a safe environment and orients hospital staff to the psychosocial needs of children and their families, fostering positive hospital community relations.
ExperienceQualifications
Minimum
Required:
Completion of the Child Life Internship and eligibility to sit for the certification exam.
Preferred:
Two years of clinical experience in a pediatric healthcare setting.
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) – preferred
- Eligibility to become CPR certified, CPI trained, and Tracheostomy Trained – required
- CPR certification – preferred
