Introduction
This position supports a multidisciplinary healthcare program providing comprehensive behavioral health services within a secure or residential setting. Staff work collaboratively across medical, mental health, and administrative teams to ensure quality care for individuals in custody.
Description of DutiesThe Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) is a licensed independent clinical psychologist who serves as a subject matter expert in mental health and substance use disorders. The BHP has advanced skill in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with mental health concerns, serious mental illness, and co-occurring disorders.
Responsibilities may include psychological evaluations and testing, development of treatment plans, referrals for higher-level care when clinically indicated, and delivery of direct services such as individual and group psychotherapy, substance abuse education, and behavioral interventions. The BHP may participate in specialized programming within a therapeutic community model and provides consultation, training, and support to other healthcare and facility staff.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited program.
- Minimum one year of independent clinical practice as a licensed psychologist.
- Experience implementing or managing mental health programs (preferred).
- Experience in correctional, detention, or residential healthcare settings (preferred).
- Current, full, unrestricted license for independent practice as a Psychologist in the state of employment.
- Meets professional requirements for national registry or state standards based on year of degree completion.
- Must obtain and maintain clinical privileges as required by the facility.
- Current BLS certification.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.

- Professional integrity.
- Comprehensive knowledge of psychological assessment, testing, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Ability to provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary treatment setting.
- Understanding of therapeutic community models (preferred).
- Ability to work in multicultural and multilingual environments.
- Ability to use electronic health records and standard office software.
- Understanding of confidentiality, HIPAA, and PII regulations.
- Provide oversight and support to multidisciplinary teams in implementing mental health programming.
- Deliver direct clinical care within scope of practice.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat individuals across the lifespan as appropriate.
- Participate in emergency response as needed.
- Conduct psychological assessments, evaluations, and testing.
- Develop and monitor treatment plans in collaboration with behavioral health staff.
- Refer individuals to higher levels of care when clinically necessary.
- Provide consultation, training, and education to healthcare and facility staff on mental health topics.
- Facilitate communication between individuals and their support networks when appropriate.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with program standards.
- Assist with case management, continuity of care, and coordination of community or inpatient placements.
- Provide oversight to behavioral health technicians and interns, if applicable.
- Participate in required training, meetings, and quality improvement activities.
- Full-time role requiring participation in rotational on-call coverage.
- Must be available for day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- May be required to respond during emergency activations.
- May involve prolonged standing, walking, bending, or lifting moderately heavy objects or equipment.
- Must be able to respond on foot to emergencies within required time frames.
- Must be capable of assisting individuals during evacuations or medical events.
- This is a contracted position; operational supervision is provided by the contracted program leadership. Clinical oversight is provided by designated medical leadership.
