Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist – Blood Bank
Join Ochsner Health as a Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist in our Blood Bank. The role receives and prepares specimens, performs laboratory tests and calculations, performs quality control procedures, calibrates and maintains analytical equipment, and performs phlebotomy procedures as appropriate. Patient confidentiality is maintained.
Shift Hours7 on / 7 off Day Shift.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing independently within established time frames.
- Execute quality control and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, escalating out‑of‑control results and documenting corrective action.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, safety guidelines, OIG compliance, and proficiency testing.
- Participate in performance improvement, data analysis, and supply/reagent inventory management.
- Adapt communication style for diverse patient populations, ensuring privacy and informed consent.
- Execute related duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, laboratory science, or related field; transcript required.
- Medical laboratory scientist or technologist license in the state of practice (if applicable).
- ASCP, AMT, or AAB generalist certification; ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification if working in an academic medical center.
- Computer skills for data entry and retrieval; proficiency with Windows applications.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical, problem‑solving, and judgment skills.
The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing or sitting for prolonged periods, and working flexible schedules (24/7, weekends, holidays, on‑call). Exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications may occur.
