Clinical Protocol Technician

Surgery - Clinical Research, Tulane Medical Center

The Clinical Protocol Technician for Trauma Research in the Department of Surgery will be responsible for assisting investigators with enrolling patients in emergency clinical trials. This position is for the night shift Monday‑Friday, with rotating weekends, 11:00 pm to 7:30 am.

• Assist investigators with enrolling patients in emergency clinical trials.
• Screen and enroll patients as they arrive to the Trauma Center under Exception from Informed Consent (EFIC).
• Collect and enter data, process blood samples, administer pre‑ or post‑enrollment informed consent to subjects and/or legally authorized representatives.
• Inform patients and/or their legally authorized representatives of the patient’s enrollment into an emergency clinical trial via EFIC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, patient‑centered environment.
• Solid analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer keyboarding skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
• Familiarity with standard electronic office machines (phones, copiers, fax).

Required Education and/or

Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent with prior clinical work experience OR
• Current undergraduate student in a biological science related field OR
• Candidate with a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expressed interest in Clinical Research.
• Motivated to learn about Clinical Research and associated regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree in a biological science related field.
