Overview
Under general supervision, performs rescue and emergency medical care functions. Work involves standing ready to respond twenty-four hours a day to emergency calls within a short period of time which includes but is not limited to responding to emergency assignment; performing duties as outlined by Emergency Medical Technician Advanced certification; driving and maneuvering emergency vehicles; remaining vigilant in regards to scene assessment and safety;
requesting, routing, and coordinating resources; managing emergency scenes and communication; performing inventory, stocking, and cleaning of equipment/unit; performing documentation; staffing the emergency center; etc. Reports to the EMS Manager and performs all tasks assigned.
- Respond to emergency calls and provide rescue and emergency medical care as required.
- Perform duties as outlined by Emergency Medical Technician Advanced certification.
- Drive and maneuver emergency vehicles; assess scenes and ensure safety; request, route, and coordinate resources.
- Manage emergency scenes and communication; perform inventory, stocking, and cleaning of equipment/unit; complete documentation.
- Staff the emergency center and perform tasks as assigned by supervision.
- Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by current National and/or State Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician.
- Must have current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation/AED;
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support. - Must possess and provide certifications and a valid Class D driver’s license with application.
- Must have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background check.
- Must be honest and exhibit good moral/ethical behavior.
- Satisfactory physical condition, including back, vision and hearing.
- Attach a copy of your valid Driver’s License and certifications with application.
This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Applicants must submit accurate, detailed application forms providing all requested information, including descriptions of work experience, names, and addresses of previous employers and dates employed. Qualified applicants will be notified of the time, date and place of any assembled test(s) which may be given.
Applications received after the Final Filing Date specified on the announcement will not be accepted. Applications must be submitted on official application forms and must be filed in an Application Office before the close of business on the Final Filing Date.
All qualification requirements for examinations must be met by the Final Filing Date. However, the Civil Service Department may admit applicants to examinations conditionally in certain instances with the provision that the missing qualification shall be established prior to certification for employment. The Civil Service Department shall not be responsible for failure of the Department to receive any material mailed by an applicant nor for failure of an applicant to receive any material mailed by the Department.
Applications for examinations shall be open to all persons irrespective of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age or disability. However, applicants who are residents of Plaquemines Parish shall be accorded over non-residents. The Civil Service Department does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission of access to or treatment or employment in its programs or activities.
Reasonable accommodations will be made for anyone requesting such accommodations. There shall be no maximum age limit for admission to examinations, with a minimum age of eighteen (18) years for certain classes of work as described in the Parish service and Louisiana State Child Labor Law.
The starting salary for this position is stated on the front side of this Job Announcement. All appointments in the classified service shall be made at the minimum rate or such other starting rate specifically authorized by the Commission. Exceptional qualifications may allow up to step 15 for certain classes, with Director approval before the appointment becomes effective. Plaquemines Parish Government pays all classified employees bi-weekly with direct deposit and payroll stubs mailed to the employee’s address on file.
WorkingConditions and Additional Requirements
The working test/probationary period for all positions is six months, with possible extension for up to six additional months in accordance with Civil Service Rules. Any applicant may be disqualified if past employment is unsatisfactory. Veteran Preference in examinations applies to eligible veterans. If selected, employment includes a post-offer medical examination with drug testing.
