Emergency Services Technician

The Emergency Services Tech provides assistance to Emergency Room staff by performing approved patient treatments and procedures under supervision. The Emergency Services Technician participates in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, assists patients during their stay, and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the work area. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

• Performs approved patient treatments and procedures (e.g., accucheck, catheterization, non-medicated enemas) under the supervision of appropriate personnel in a professional and caring manner.
• Responds promptly to patient call lights and assists with personal hygiene and activities of daily living, maintaining an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment.
• Participates in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes: greets patients and families, orients patients, takes vital signs, and completes necessary paperwork efficiently.
• Safely manages patient clothing and valuables, maintains clean linens, and utilizes sterile techniques in surgical preparation.
• Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system or pharmacy and delivers them or places them securely as directed.
• Answers incoming telephone and intercom calls, relays messages, and uses proper judgment regarding interruptions and paging.
• Assists with identification and care of deceased patients, offering comfort to grieving family members.
• Ensures the work area is kept neat, clean, orderly, and safe at all times.
• Maintains inventory levels by preparing requisitions, verifying receipt, and ensuring proper fill of orders.
• Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies, including safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent, with specialized training.
• Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Nurse Aide Certification
  • One year experience in an emergency medicine environment
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Louisiana State EMT license
  • Junior or Senior in an accredited nursing program
• BLS Certification
