Infection Preventionist – LCMC Health

Your role extends beyond routine duties, ensuring safe environments through surveillance, education, and policy development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Surveillance: Evaluate hospital-acquired infection rates using statistical process control methodology; submit data to the National Healthcare Safety Network and report to public health agencies; perform infection control environment of care (EOC) rounding; develop, implement approved epidemiologic protocols for investigating, controlling hospital epidemics, and other infections.
  • Performance Improvement: Conduct annual assessments, develop action plans, establish departmental goals and policies; participate in quality/performance improvement activities; assist in preparing reports and statistical data for committees.
  • Education & Consultation: Plan, organize, and deliver education programs for all hospital staff; demonstrate prevention techniques; collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other staff to resolve infection control problems and identify improvement opportunities; provide resource information; triage infection control queries.
  • Policy Development: Create and enforce policies ensuring compliance with TJC, OSHA, CDC, CMS, and other regulations.
Qualifications
  • Experience: None required; preferred experience in infection control in a clinical setting.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or health-related science; must enroll in Master’s program within first year if not already holding one;
    Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) must be obtained within three years of hire.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Specialized training and basic knowledge of infection control principles; familiarity with NHSN requirements; maintain state license and continuing education; strong familiarity navigating electronic medical records; working knowledge of Epic preferred.
