OverviewThis role maintains safety in the MRI environment while assessing patients and safely performing routine MRI procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.
EducationRequired:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred – Clinical MRI Experience.
Required – 6 months of supervised MRI clinical scanning experience.
Certifications- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- ARRT registered or unlimited state license.
- Certification in another clinical imaging field (such as ARDMS or NMTCB) with associate degree or bachelor degree in allied health field.
- ARRT, ARMRIT or CAMRT registered as an MR technologist with no experience.
- Advanced certification in MRI required by an organization recognized by the ACR Registry required within two years of employment.
- Preferred:
Advanced certification in MRI required by an organization recognized by the ACR Registry.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of MRI procedures and technical language.
- Ability to work with and maintain strict confidentiality, work efficiently and calmly under pressure, and be self‑directed and function without direct supervision.
- Ability to work flexible schedule (such as nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.) and travel throughout and between facilities.
- General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and the hemodynamics of blood flow in relation to the various disease states.
- Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on nationally published criteria.
- Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
- Ability to provide care and/or support services in a manner consistent with the patient’s age, social, spiritual, and cultural needs and other special consideration.
- Verify physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
- Use radiology information systems to facilitate care.
- Explain procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
- Independently operate equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including placement of IV).
- Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
- Complete timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and perform notification/remediation as warranted.
- Assist in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, introducing oneself, adjusting explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and tailoring communication style.
- Perform other related duties as required.
