Overview

Ochsner Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support endoscopy and surgical procedures by ensuring equipment availability, performing scrubbing, and assisting with procedures as assigned.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure availability of equipment and supplies for endoscopy/surgical procedures.
  • Competently scrub for surgical procedures and assist with endoscopy procedures.
  • Organize activities and supplies based on the surgery schedule.
  • Communicate patient‑care information to patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials.
  • Adapt to rapid changes in the department due to unit census, patient acuity, and resource availability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program (online programs not accepted) or five years of surgical technologist experience.
  • No prior experience required; one year of similar medical setting preferred.
Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (required).
  • Certification in Surgical Technology (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, and technology.
  • Basic analytical skills.
  • Proficiency using computers, software, and web–based applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call).
Physical & Environmental Demands
  • Occasional lifting of 50–100 pounds and frequent lifting of 25–50 pounds.
  • Work conducted in patient‑care areas with exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
