Job Overview
The Oncology Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and documentation of chemotherapy services in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This pharmacist coordinates the oncology service according to the most recent guidelines and recommendations published in pharmacy and medical literature. They assist other hospital personnel in developing clinical pathways, protocols, policies, and procedures and provide continuous education to students, residents, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities- Patient Care
Activities:
provides pharmaceutical care to patients receiving chemotherapy, evaluates chemotherapy regimens for appropriateness, discusses medication order changes with prescribers, provides patient consultations, detects and reports adverse drug reactions and medication errors, directs development and maintenance of clinical pharmacy services, and documents all interventions. - Collaboration and
Education:
collaborates with hospital and pharmacy staff, provides ongoing education through educational material and in‑services, and demonstrates awareness of documentation, TJC standards, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements. - Development of Clinical Guidelines and Protocols: collaborates with physicians and other health professionals to develop interventional strategies, oncology guidelines, clinical pathways, and formulary management; monitors chemotherapy utilization and identifies improvement opportunities.
- Committee Membership and Regulatory Awareness: participates on clinical committees, acts as liaison to other healthcare practitioners, and maintains awareness of documentation, JCAHO, CMS, and State Board of Pharmacy standards.

D. - PGY‑1 Residency Program
- PGY‑2 in Oncology, preferred
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in inpatient pharmacy hospital/clinical capacity
- Licensed or registered to practice pharmacy in Louisiana
- Board‑certified oncology pharmacist (BCOP), preferred
