Cancer Center Jobs Deputy Associate Director, Community Outreach and Engagement

LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center

December 17, 2025

The LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center and LSU Health New Orleans' (LSUHSC-NO) School of Public Health are seeking to expand the leadership team responsible for the school’s cancer community outreach and engagement programs. LSU Health New Orleans is pursuing National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation, positioning the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center to become Louisiana’s only NCI-Designated Cancer Center. Based in New Orleans, the Cancer Center unites cancer research and programs across multiple LSU campuses statewide, including Pennington Biomedical Research Center, LSU Baton Rouge, and School of Veterinary Medicine.

Louisiana’s mix of urban and rural communities offers unique opportunities for impactful population-based research and engagement. The Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) program is recognized statewide for its leadership in cancer screening initiatives, virtual nurse navigation, smoking cessation programs, partnerships with community organizations and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and efforts to connect patients to cancer clinical studies.

The Deputy Associate Director, Community Outreach and Engagement will be responsible for growing and building programs that will help reduce the impact of cancer throughout Louisiana. The candidate also will hold an open rank faculty position in the Community Health Sciences and Policy Program (CHSP). Relevant experience within an NCI-Designated Cancer Center is desirable. Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following: (1) cancer COE program development, implementation and evaluation;
2) community-based participatory research in cancer intervention; (3) community capacity building in cancer prevention and early detection. The incumbent will work closely with the Associate Director of COE to develop programs to expand outreach in cancer prevention, screening, treatment, and research relevant to Louisiana’s cancer burden. The COE program consists of prevention and control, research, engagement and education, and evaluation.

The incumbent will serve as the lead for engagement and education while supporting the other components to exceed best practices among NCI-Designated centers.

Preferred candidates will have a doctorate degree in public health, community health, social work, or related field. Applicants with a doctorate in another field who have a master’s or demonstrated experience in public or community health will be considered.

Candidates must have experience in interdisciplinary research and a demonstrated record of developing and maintaining recognized, externally funded research, in addition to interest in teaching and a commitment to public health. Candidates will be expected to establish independent externally funded research, collaborate with researchers, mentor students and post-doctoral fellows, and teach.

The CHSP Program offers Master of Public Health (MPH) and Doctoral of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. CHSP faculty members collaborate with other Programs in the School of Public Health, and School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Dentistry, School of Allied Health, and the LSU Vet School. Competitive salary and start-up funds for research support are available. The Program offers a collegial environment with growth potential.

Candidates must be able to operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty.
