Responsibilities- Administers patient care to patients in the Emergency Department.
- Functions in uncommon situations with awareness of stress response and personal well-being.
- Understands body substance isolation and medical-legal principles in emergency care.
- Responds to emergent care calmly, efficiently, and promptly.
- Administers immediate, advanced life support in emergency department environments in accordance with laws, regulations, and standards.
- Assesses nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
- Performs emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures (e.g., starting IVs, applying splints, cardiac monitoring, bloodwork, equipment management).
- Manages advanced airway techniques and ventilation equipment.
- Treats cardiac dysrhythmias with EKG interpretation and use of monitoring with capabilities for pacing, cardioversion, and defibrillation per policies.
- Administers medications via appropriate routes under standing orders or medical direction.
- Provides and manages care for traumatic injuries using basic and advanced equipment.
- Works under physician supervision, adheres to protocols, and assists other medical staff as needed.
- Documents and maintains accurate patient records of medical history and treatments.
- Represents the organization while on duty at public events and performs other duties as assigned.
Experience
Required:
1 year of experience as a paramedic
Education
High School Diploma or GED
Graduation from an approved paramedic program
Certifications & Licensure
Required:
State of Louisiana Paramedic License;
Crisis Prevention training within 6 months of hire; ACLS; PALS within 6 months of hire; NRP within 6 months of hire; MOAB within 6 months of hire
Preferred:
Nationally Certified Paramedic
Special Skills or Knowledge
Physically capable of performing job; able to understand and carry out instructions; able to transport materials; dependable and motivated to complete duties without constant supervision; excellent communication skills with diverse patient populations
