PositionThis position has a Special Entrance Rate at each level. SER details:
- Corrections Cadet SER: $17.50 per hour
- Corrections Sergeant SER: $18.80 per hour
- Corrections Sergeant-Master SER: $20.11 per hour
There is Premium Pay for this position: a rate between $0.50 and $1.00 per hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
PositionSpecific Duties
- Six week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
- Work closely with inmates incarcerated in a State prison facility.
- Primarily responsible for the custody and security of inmates in facility buildings, dorms, workshops, and/or fields.
- Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, and perform in-depth security searches of inmate(s) person, property, living quarters and work locations.
- Supervise inmate work crews, patrol areas of the prison, and transport inmates as assigned.
- Follow directions from upper level officers and departmental policies and regulations.
- Will receive firearms training.
Eligible for additional pay increase after becoming permanent for having an Associate Degree or a Baccalaureate Degree in Behavioral Rehabilitation, Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Law, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology from an accredited college, university, or technical college.
Career Progression- Start as a Corrections Cadet. May start as a Corrections Sergeant with qualifying experience.
- Eligible for reallocation to Corrections Sergeant after 6 months of successful employment.
- Eligible for reallocation to Corrections Sergeant-Master after one year of LA DOC employment.
- With 2 years of Correctional Office experience and permanent status, eligible to apply for promotion to Corrections Lieutenant (up two pay levels from Corrections Sergeant-Master).

Salary depends on level of experience. Vacancies may be filled as Cadet, Sergeant, or Sergeant-Master depending on experience.

Additional Details- This position may be filled as a Temporary Job Appointment. If permanent, the employee will be converted to a probationary appointment.
