- Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
- Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR
- Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
- A bachelor’s degree.
- EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
- NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
- This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
- Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, enforcement of supervision conditions, referrals to community resources, crisis intervention, and placement in appropriate treatment, vocational, or mental health programs.
- Conduct criminal justice social background investigations and prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations for courts, parole and pardon boards, and executive decision-makers.
- Enforce violations of supervision, including conducting arrests, transporting offenders, preparing violation documentation, and participating in probable cause and revocation hearings.
- Administer offender accountability measures by determining and collecting restitution, supervision fees, fines, and court costs; establishing payment schedules; and disbursing funds to victims and agencies.
- Perform security and compliance functions, including administering drug tests, applying PPCT defensive tactics when necessary, supervising community service work, and ensuring all activities meet ACA standards.
- Conduct oversight and auditing activities, including jail operation audits, contract compliance audits of CRCs, and disciplinary hearings for adult inmates housed in CRCs.
- Appointment Type: Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government.
- Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
- An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
