This position is responsible for assisting with supervising the overall operations of the Unit assigned, ensuring all mandatory posts are filled, responding to significant institutional unusual occurrences, coordinating security functions with Corrections Lt. Colonels and Unit Majors, and investigating all physical confrontations.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as weekend/weekly duty officer.
  • Assist with coordinating facility activities for security staff in the Unit assigned.
  • Make daily inspections, review investigations, employee disciplinary reports, ARP.
  • Support the Corrections Assistant Warden assigned to the Unit.
Position Details

Appointment Type:
Detail of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - Corrections Services (Adult DOC).

  • An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if the position becomes available.
Qualifications and Experience

Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security, plus one of the following:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
  • One year of experience in any field; OR
  • Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.

Special Requirements
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), an applicant found to have engaged in sexual abuse or related disqualifying conduct will be disqualified.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.
