Position: ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT TECHNICIAN, LEAD (CLASS CODE 3089)
Location: New Orleans

overview

lead level and advanced skilled work in the enforcement of environmental or water pollution control laws and other environmental requirements mandated by state and federal agencies including the environmental protection agency (epa) and louisiana department of environmental quality (ldeq, etc.). Work includes conducting a range of enforcement activities related to the stormwater, backflow prevention and pretreatment sections and implementing programs and policy.

Work also includes information collection, inspection, monitoring, sampling, and public education; and related work as requested.

qualifications
  • original entrance
  • bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, environmental science, engineering or related field;
  • five (5) years of full-time experience in the field of water treatment, wastewater treatment or environmental compliance inspector of storm water/wastewater discharges and/or backflow prevention compliance with a municipality, parish/county or other recognized jurisdiction, including private water or waste water operating companies;
  • current class two (ii) wastewater collection or water distribution certification issued by the louisiana department of health; and
  • current class two (ii) wastewater treatment or water treatment certification issued by the louisiana department of health.

  • bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, environmental science, engineering or related field; and permanent status and two (2) years full-time experience as an environmental enforcement technician ii.
  • or
  • associate s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, environmental science, engineering or related field, and three (3) full-time experience as an environmental enforcement technician ii.
  • current class two (ii) wastewater collection or water distribution certification issued by the louisiana department of health; and
  • current class two (ii) wastewater treatment or water treatment certification issued by the louisiana department of health; and
  • water supply specialists and backflow assembly tester certifications.
  • note: prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and certificates claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.

    note: domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. Residency requirements are waived for all sewerage and water board of new orleans positions vacant and advertised for at least 90 days. Employees hired under this waiver remain exempt from the city s residency requirement for the duration of their employment at the sewerage and water board. (la r.s. 33:4076).
