Overview
Technical inspection and law enforcement work to ensure compliance with city fire prevention regulations and ordinances. Investigative work to determine the origins and causes of fires. Public relations work encouraging the use of fire prevention methods.
Responsibilities- Conduct inspections and enforce city fire prevention regulations and ordinances.
- Investigate the origins and causes of fires.
- Provide public relations support for fire prevention education.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Superintendent.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of experience in one of the following fields: fire prevention, firefighting (with required firefighter certification accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications), or law enforcement (with required Peace Officer Standards and Training Council certification).
- Certification as a Fire Inspector I by the International Code Council (ICC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or a certification accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
- Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) certification from a Louisiana State approved academy.

Domicile RequirementsDomicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. All full‑time employees hired into this classification after January 1, 2013 must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire. Exceptions may be made on a case‑by‑case basis.
Background CheckA criminal background check will be conducted on candidates being considered for hire. Convictions for felonies or numerous misdemeanors may be disqualifying.
