We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year‑round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot‑machine gaming facility and 13 off‑track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.
Job SummaryThe Guest Service Clerk processes pari‑mutuel wagering transactions into the totalization system using Tote‑provided wagering terminals to satisfy State Racing Commission regulations, IRS regulations, and Fair Grounds standards. They provide professional services in a manner that meets and exceeds customer and company expectations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Processes customer wagering transactions and wagering vouchers through a totalizator terminal and certifies accurate wagering transactions as prescribed by state racing commission regulations, IRS regulations and Fair Grounds’ standards.
- Accounts for all monies, vouchers and coupons used in performing job duties and reconciles daily cash handling activities to confirm accuracy of cash received at the beginning of the shift and cash returned at the end of the shift.
- Ensures compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
- Disseminates accurate and real‑time racing and wagering information to customers and escalates requests for information to superiors when needed.
- Creates and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- Maintains positive relations with customers and provides service satisfactory to customer and Fair Grounds requirements.
- Anticipates and responds to a wide variety of customer needs and requests quickly and efficiently.
- Consults with customers to maintain goodwill and obtain satisfactory outcomes for wagering disputes; escalates disputes with superiors when appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities
Must be 21 years or older. Able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
Education And ExperiencePrevious cash handling work experience. High school degree or equivalent. Pari‑mutuel industry and cash handling experience are desirable but not required. Ability to work in a high‑volume environment. Excellent verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Self‑starter who works with minimum supervision. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as required including nights, weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsRequires contact with gaming patrons on the gaming floor. Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push and pull. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk. The employee frequently is also required to stand, walk and reach with arms and hands, bend and can lift at least 25 pounds. Office/Casino environment; subject to outdoor temperature; exposed to bright lights and noise work environment consists of very non‑demanding surroundings with a low noise level.
