The overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of drafting, design, survey, and/or water resources work in the District Design Office. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Qualifications- Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
- Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
- Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties- Designs, details and analyzes engineering plans for roadways, drainage and levee projects. Task include assembling and designing details and construction plan sheets, gathering data needed to complete and analyze engineering structures or land surveys, specifying materials to be used and performing design of survey calculators needed to complete the design.
- Duties also involve transferring field data to design plans, determining vertical and horizontal alignment of projects and assembling all materials to complete the plans and surveys.
- Additional duties include contacting property owners for permission to enter property, contacting utility companies to locate utilities and determining relocations as well as researching records to gather information necessary to complete project.
