Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, or CATIA. Gather information, make studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals. Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups, considering ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
- Associate’s degree or other 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline.
- Three years of experience.
- Microsoft Office, Ship Constructor, AutoCAD.
- Experience in checking design products.
