professional, supervisory, administrative and technical work directing and evaluating all activities of the traffic division of the department of public works which includes overseeing a staff of professional engineering, technical and administrative employees. This position provides oversight of complex traffic management projects, ensuring safe and efficient roadways for all users. Responsibilities include managing approximately 400 signalized intersections, overseeing multimodal transportation systems, coordinating street signage, and handling right-of-way permits.
This role is critical for aligning traffic policies with modern engineering standards, reducing congestion, and improving public safety; and related work as required.

1. Registration as a professional engineer. Important: out-of-state registrations are acceptable. However, any applicant who is not registered as a professional engineer in louisiana must, if hired, show proof of such registration during his or her probationary period. No person may receive permanent status until this requirement has been met, and no probationary period may extend longer than one year. Civil, transportation, traffic, mechanical, electrical, or general engineering is preferred.
2. Seven (7) years of engineering experience as a professional engineer. At least two (2) years of this experience must have included supervisory responsibilities. At least four (4) years of this engineering experience must have been in traffic operations engineering.

2. Permanent status with the city of new orleans at a pay grade equal to or higher than 96 and four (4) years of exempt level professional traffic engineering experience. At least two (2) years of this experience must have included supervisory responsibilities.
note: professional engineering experience must have been gained after registration as a professional engineer.
note: current certification as a professional traffic operations engineer (ptoe) or eligibility to take the professional traffic operations engineer (ptoe) certification exam is strongly preferred.
