Position Summary

The Civil/Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, modification, and lifecycle support of structural and mechanical components for offshore crane systems. This individual will play a key role in both new product development and the continuous improvement of existing equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes, client specifications, and internal quality standards.

The position requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, manufacturing, project management, and field service personnel to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural and mechanical design and analysis for crane components and supporting systems in accordance with customer specifications, industry codes, and internal design standards.
  • Develop detailed engineering calculations for load cases, lifting operations, fatigue, wind and environmental forces, and transportation or installation conditions.
  • Create and review fabrication drawings, models, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and other design tools.
  • Evaluate existing crane structures and mechanical systems to identify opportunities for performance improvement, weight reduction, cost optimization, and enhanced safety.
  • Conduct design verification activities including stress analysis, finite element analysis (FEA) (if applicable), and peer reviews.
  • Support the development of engineering documentation including design reports, technical specifications, inspection plans, and operation/maintenance guidelines.
  • Participate in offshore site visits to perform field measurements, inspections, job scoping, and technical assessments for upgrades, repairs, and new installations.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and classification societies to ensure designs meet project requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and production teams during fabrication, assembly, and testing phases.
  • Assist with root cause investigations and engineering solutions for field issues or non-conformances.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in civil/structural engineering, preferably in offshore structures, heavy lift equipment, marine, or related industries.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proven experience in structural design, mechanical systems integration, and engineering analysis.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (API, AISC, ASME, DNV, ABS, ISO, or similar).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with 3D modeling and FEA software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of load paths, steel structures, welding, bolted connections, and fatigue design.
  • Ability and willingness to travel offshore for job scoping, inspections, and project support as required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
