Job SummaryThe Driller operates and repairs drilling equipment and provides guidance to work crews. The role includes training crew members on rigging, day‑to‑day operations, and company policies, leading operations to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and established procedures.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Provide guidance and training for work crew personnel regarding rigging up and rigging down, day‑to‑day operations and company policies and procedures.
- Utilize various computer programs to prepare and submit drilling operation reports.
- Operate rig hoisting system from the control panel; raise and lower drilling tubulars using the hoisting system.
- Account for the direct supervision of three to five employees, including the Assistant Driller, Derrickhand, Roughnecks, Motorman, and indirect supervision of five to eight additional personnel.
- Communicate with the Rig Manager to improve HSE, production, and control daily costs based on the operational budget goal.
- Recognize and eliminate safety and environmental issues and provide leadership that reinforces the EXE culture.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to follow oral or written instructions to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interact with others in a team environment.
- Minimum training requirements:
Health, Safety and Environment Orientation;
Rig Specific Start Up Training;
Well Control Certification;
Supervisor Level;
Drilling Only;
Horizontal and Extended Reach Drilling (HERDIT). - Basic/Intermediate computer skills, including operating a computer, Omron Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Pason systems.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to exchange accurate technical and safety information with vendors, engineering, employees, and read, learn, and educate on safety and technical manuals.
Minimum: 3–5 years of related experience.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
