Mechanical Design Department Lead
Our office is located in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans, Louisiana. Employees in New Orleans mostly follow a hybrid schedule where they are required to work in office, attend in-person meetings or training and may also collaborate virtually. New Orleans is a popular tourist destination known for its rich history, architecture, cultural arts, music, and cuisine. Many great hotels, galleries, restaurants, and museums are a short walk from the office.
WhatYou Will Do
The Senior Engineering Specialist – Mechanical Design plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of engineering projects from initial concept through to final execution by establishing and implementing CAD best practices. The Senior Engineering Specialist leads a design team, champions design excellence, and fosters a culture of innovation and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. Manage, lead, train, and mentor a team of designers while promoting continuous learning and improvement.
Establish design objectives and technical specifications aligned with project goals and ensure quality and consistency across all projects. Coordinate design reviews, document and implement CAD standards, and drive project CAD setup activities. Coordinate design resource allocation with engineering leads, evaluate new personnel skillsets before mobilization, and collaborate with other disciplines to develop procedural interfaces while working with software vendors to resolve technical issues.
Collaborate with other disciplines, manage project schedules and budgets, and educate engineering personnel on software functionality. Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations, and perform other duties as requested.
- High School Diploma or GED and 9 years of related engineering design experience including managing design professionals, process development, and execution;
OR - Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline and 5 years of engineering design experience including managing design professionals, process development, and execution
- Associate degree in Drafting and Design, or closely related field
- Expertise in guiding a transition to new design software
- Expertise in developing, documenting, and implementing CAD standards of practice
- Expertise with industry-standard CAD tools
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Ability to manage complex design projects and deliver results on time
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of efficient plant layout
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $101,000 - $141,000
. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
