The Process Engineer (Assembly) is accountable for improving overall assembly processes through analysis and strategic planning. This position will work with the Director of Operations or Automation Manager to identify inefficient assembly processes, undertaking operational analysis, work design and methods, and work to eliminate them to increase output and decrease costs. In some instances, the Process Engineer (Assembly) will work with the Director of Operations or Automation Manager reviewing opportunities for simplification of tasks for improved effectiveness.
This is a skilled position that requires previous experience and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing and assembly.
The position reports to the Automation Manager, as does the Manufacturing Engineer Automated Machinery/Processes (Assembly), Process Engineering Technicians and Assembly Technician.
The Process Engineer (Assembly) is responsible for researching new technology and suggesting new machines to the appropriate managers and decision-makers.
The position is also responsible for training assistance on operation and preventative maintenance of installed equipment.
The incumbent is responsible for writing and updating processes to ensure proper methods of manufacturing or assembly.
The incumbent conducts time studies and evaluates existing processes to ensure that standards are maintained.
The incumbent assists product design with new/existing manufacturing or assembly processes and methods.
The Process Engineer (Assembly) will lead projects, including a cross-functional team, ensuring these projects stay on time, on spec and on budget.
The position has the responsibility for justifying new tooling and new technology in the manufacturing or assembly areas.
The incumbent must also maintain all new and existing prints of tooling.
The incumbent is responsible for keeping up to date on new manufacturing or assembly processes and methods and work to improve efficiency in the manufacturing or assembly areas.
Skills in human relations are very important since the incumbent must work closely with many people. Therefore, the incumbent must possess excellent communication skills, including both written and oral.
Principal Accountabilities- One of the primary responsibilities of a Process Engineer (Assembly) is to analyze current production procedures and standards to identify inefficiencies.
- Spend time on the production floor analyzing both employee and machinery workflow to find out where the process can be streamlined for lower costs and higher productivity.
- Assists in the monitoring of government requirements (EPA, OSHA, etc.) to ensure work centers are in compliance with established standards.
- A requirement of this position is the ability to interact with individuals throughout the company, as well as individuals external to the company.
- The identification and/or generation of all documentation related to the integration of new products into the production environment.
- Perform analysis of part design characteristics, specifications and tolerances of parts, manufacturing process design, set up and tooling. Identification of subsequent changes to manufacturing and assembly drawings, as necessary.
- Optimization of processes to meet objectives of lowering cost and/or improving productivity.
- Prior to project completion the Process Engineer (Assembly) will provide the proper documentation in the assembly and maintenance along with other technical files to the Maintenance & Facilities Engineer.
- At project completion the Process Engineer (Assembly) is responsible for monitoring the new procedures and reporting successes and failures to the Director of Operations or Assembly Manager.
- Actively promote process improvement to ensure compliance to industry standards and regulations and to secure the future business position in the marketplace.
