Job Overview
Kachemak Bay Flying Service (KBFS) operates locations in Temple, TX;
Crestview, FL; and Geneva, AL. KBFS holds certifications for CFR 14 FAA Part 133 (External Loads), 135 (Non‑Scheduled Transport), 137 (Agricultural Spray Operations), 141 (Flight Training), and 145 (Repair Station). In addition to commercial operations, KBFS provides contract aviation support to the Department of Defense, other U.S. Federal Agencies, and U.S. approved foreign militaries and security organizations.
The S³/KBFS Crestview, FL International ISR Training Academy offers pilot, mission system operator, flying crew chief, and loadmaster qualification training in air‑land, airdrop, and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission sets. KBFS Geneva supports Geneva Municipal Airport and received the 2023 FAA Award for Airport Manager of the Year under Manager Bryan Pike. KBFS Temple delivers flight training, aircraft maintenance, and avionics support, and commercial aviation operations.
OpenPosition
KBFS is seeking an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic II with Inspection Authority experience for operations at Temple Draughon‑Miller Regional Airport in Temple, TX. This full‑time position (40 hours per week) is not a teleworking role. Military experience is a plus.
Job Responsibilities- Provides technical guidance to aircraft mechanics and less‑tenure inspectors.
- Supports KBFS internal fleet aircraft performing FAA Parts 61, 91, 133, 135, 137, and 141.
- Serves the KBFS A&P maintenance team in servicing general aviation fixed‑wing and rotary‑wing aircraft.
- Inspects and approves aircraft and component repair for all major inspections required by Original Equipment Manufacturers in accordance with the KBFS General Operating Manual (GOM) and FAA regulations for civilian owned aircraft and adding DCMA 8210.1D for military aircraft.
- Documents quality control and approval actions in aircraft historical records and ensures FAA compliance for all repair and inspection entries and compliance with FAA maintenance and safety directives.
- Ensures all maintenance operations for KBFS conform to the Corporate and KBFS Safety Management System (SMS).
- High School Graduate or 4 years direct relevant experience.
- Completed the Military Aircraft Repairer Course or holds an FAA A&P Mechanic Certificate.
- Must have an FAA Airframe & Powerplant certificate.
- Minimum of 5 years' direct relevant experience supporting fixed wing and rotary wing aviation programs.
- Must have received Inspection Authority (IA) training and have a current IA certificate.
- Must have at least 2 years' experience supporting General Aviation programs (civilian).
- Must have at least 2 years' experience performing maintenance operational checks and troubleshooting.
- Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds in performance of A&P duties.
- Must be able to pass a background security check.
- Must agree to periodic random drug prevention testing to comply with company and FAA directives.
