Position SummaryThe Elementary School Principal is responsible for the administration and management of the school. The position's primary responsibility is to create an engaging learning environment of excellence with a focus on student growth and development, professional support and development for teachers and staff, instructional practices and strategies that yield academic progress and measurable results. The individual will lead in setting the school vision, culture, and educational standards to create a positive and safe learning environment.

Visionary Leadership- Invests the school community (teachers, parents, students, alumni, business partners) in a vision for student achievement which forms the basis for setting ambitious, data-driven goals to prepare students for career and college readiness.
- Works collaboratively with the school community to develop and maintain a shared school vision.
- Brings the school vision to life by using it to guide decision making about students and instructional programs.
- Maintains a faculty focus on developing learning experiences that will enable students to prosper in subsequent grades and as adults.
- Maintains open communications with the school community and effectively conveys high expectations for student learning to the community.
- Provides opportunities and support for collaboration, the exchange of ideas, experimentation with innovative teaching strategies, and ongoing school improvement.
- As an extension of the school vision, actively engages faculty, community, and students in developing, assessing, and revising the School Improvement Plan using school data – students, faculty, and community.
- Fosters the integration of students into mainstream society while valuing diversity.
- Uses knowledge of teaching and learning to work collaboratively with the faculty and staff to implement effective and innovative teaching practices which engage students in meaningful and challenging learning experiences.
- Models, and promotes effective teaching strategies that enable students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real world experiences outside the classroom.
- Ensures teachers’ use of innovative, research-based strategies to engage students actively in solving complex problems and methods of student assessment which will enhance learning for all students.
- Conducts and documents frequent classroom visits and periodic observations, provides constructive feedback to faculty and staff, and suggests models of effective teaching techniques as needed.
- Promotes a caring, growth-oriented environment for faculty and students, one in which high expectations and high standards for student achievement are emphasized.
- Involves others effectively in the improvement of curriculum and instruction.
- Actively seeks out grants, donations, and supplementary funds to support the school program(s).
- Promotes collaboration and team building among faculty.
- Ensures school’s achievement of annual yearly progress by meeting the annual school performance growth targets.
- Leads a continuous cycle of planning based on data, implementing plans through effective communication and visionary leadership, monitoring to ensure actions are getting the desired results, and changing approaches as necessary.
- Engages the school community in reviewing culture and climate data, including surveys and observable data, and solicits feedback about what needs to happen to ensure explicit goals are met and that the school community takes pride in their school. The school is the center of community activity.
- Ensures professional development is designed and linked to teacher observations, formative assessment results, and school-wide goals.
